This Council, conscious of the need to promote Traveller welfare and ethnicity and acknowledging the work of the PPN and the Community Platform, the two Traveller Support Groups as well as the positive record of this Council in such matters, requests that the process of establishing a “ A County Travellers Forum”, that would provide an ongoing opportunity for Travellers in the County to engage in active citizenship, be initiated by the CEO in consultation with Traveller Support Groups and brought to the April Council meeting for approval

Mot (3)
Submitted by:
Councillor G. O'Connell
Responsibility:
Director of Corporate Performance & Change Management

Mayors Business

That this Council, conscious as it is of the increasing gap in incomes in Ireland and across the EU debate the case for a Basic Income as a means of addressing social and economic inequality and the inadequacy of both Social Welfare and Taxation Law in tackling either, following which, if there is a consensus, that we write to the Taoiseach and Minster for Finance asking them to enter into discussions with their EU counterparts with the objective of making Ireland a Pilot Country to explore moving from the current Social Welfare and Taxation Systems to a Basic Incomes System.  If this motion is agreed that it be communicated to the other City and County Councils.

That this Council calls on the Chief Executive to explore the positives in selling the site known locally as "Maelruain's Field" which sits adjacent to County Hall and which is one of the most valuable sites in South Dublin County Council. The proceeds of the sale would be earmarked for the building of social housing on other sites where I believe we as a Council could achieve a much better yield of housing for those on our Housing and Homeless lists.

Mot (6)

Councillor D. Looney
Responsibility:
Director of Economic, Enterprise & Tourism Development

Mot (7)

A//Director of Housing, Social & Community Development

This Council is opposed to the policy of requiring those in need of emergency accommodation to self-accommodate. We call on the Chief Executive to raise this matter with the Dublin Homeless Executive and the Minister for Housing and to introduce a policy whereby emergency accommodation is sources by SDCC staff directly. If additional resources are required then the Chief Executive should apply to the Department for this.

Mot (11)
Submitted by:
Councillor N. Coules
Responsibility:
Director of Corporate Performance & Change Management

That this Council calls on An Taoiseach to break with tradition and not to visit the White House on St. Patrick’s Day given the well documented views of President Trump on migrants and women, and because if the visit goes ahead it will be a cause of national shame.

In an effort to ensure that all senior citizen tenants of South Dublin County Council have warm and secure homes, this Council calls on the Manager to immediately undertake a programme of inspections on senior citizen housing to determine how many homes need a complete refit of windows and doors and how many just need replacement front and/or back doors, and to report back to this Council the results of such inspections and give a commitment to securing the funding and carrying out the required works, within a reasonable timeframe.

That this Council call on the Minister for Justice to supply more Garda to all stations across the County.  With the current surge in gun crime and general crime some Garda stations are finding it impossible to get to residents that are reporting crime in their area.  We need more garda in our Communities across the County.

Mot (20)

That the Chief Executive writes to the Minister for Disability calling for him to introduce legislation ensuring all Disabled Toilets are installed with changing benches or hoists to facilitate parents.  The current situation means parents of disabled children are forced to lie their children down on toilet floors to change them, which is a very distressing and upsetting situation.
