MEETING OF SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
Monday, February 13, 2017
QUESTION NO.2
QUESTION: Councillor F.N. Duffy
To ask the Chief Executive what SDCC provisions are in place to publish Vacant Sites register with sites on it, and is there a time line.
REPLY:
On January 1st 2017, South Dublin County Council established a Vacant Sites Register, which aims to identify sites within the County on housing or regeneration lands suitable for housing but not coming forward for development.
As the Register was only established on January 1st 2017, it is not presently populated with any vacant sites. During 2016, South Dublin County Council undertook a detailed assessment of all potential vacant sites in the County.
The next stage in the process is correspondence will be issued shortly with the relevant landowners at various stages throughout the review process. Landowners of potential vacant sites will be notified of their intended entry on the Vacant Site Register. They will then be afforded a 28 day submission period to respond to the Planning Authority in respect of the proposed entry. The landowner will also have the opportunity to appeal its inclusion on the Register to An Bord Pleanála. In this regard, the establishment of a Vacant Site Register, which includes sites will be dependent on the outcome of submission and potential appeal processes respectively. However, it should be noted that upon completion of the assessment, consultation and potential appeal processes, South Dublin County Council will then be in a position to include any sites that have been deemed ‘vacant’ on its Vacant Site Register.
