QUESTION NO.10

QUESTION: Councillor B. Leech

Could more litter bins be installed in the entrances to Tymon North Park, particularly in view of the amount of dog littering that is taking place. Dog owners are leaving dog litter in plastic bags hanging on trees and shrubbery because of insufficient number of bins.

REPLY:

The litter bin stock in the County, including in Parks locations, has recently been surveyed.  There are at present a total of 26 litter bins in various locations in Tymon Park.  While the provision of bins in the park is in general thought to be adequate it is accepted that additional bins could be provided in the car parks at the three main entrances to the park at Castletymon Road, Limeklin Road and Wellington Lane.  The litter bin service is currently being examined by the Environment, Public Realm and Climate Change SPC and a report is due to be submitted to the SPC on the matter on February 7th.  This report will include proposals for provision of additional litter bins around the County and these locations will be included in those proposals.
