QUESTION NO.33

QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons

To ask for a report in to sweeping up of leaves and the provider that is contracted for same and plans for 2017 and to ask that SDCC consider going back to the bag system that was in place in an effort to keep leaves from scattering all over the place

REPLY:

For the last number of years the council has entered into an arrangement with Oxigen to operate a ‘live list’ and all requests for road sweeping were entered onto this list and in most instances the sweep has been carried out within a couple of days of the request being received. (The average was 1.97 days to complete a leaf request task and this includes Saturdays and Sundays).

In 2016 the agreement with Oxigen was further modified in relation to leaf removal. In addition to the 2 sweepers that are dedicated solely to leaf clearance requests, one van was dedicated to leaf bag removals.

The following is an outline of arrangements put in place to manage the varying requests for the collection of leaves:

It is proposed to continue this policy into 2017 as it has proven very successful.
