Early intervention is key to a child's development. The Get Ahead club that operates an after school programme in North Clondalkin in schools in Balgaddy, Rowlagh, Neilstown and Quarryvale is under threat due to a restructuring of funding from TUSLA.

Further to the response to my Irish Water Motion last month in particular the line below:
“Install a softening unit If you find hard water is a problem in your home you can install a domestic softening unit. Irish Water cannot recommend any particular unit or guarantee its effectiveness. It is best to talk to your local plumber for advice in this area.”
This Area Committee requests that the Chief Executive confirm if this response is directly from IW website advising the public to “talk to the local plumber”. If IW are advising the public to install a domestic softening unit, while at same time not recommending or guaranteeing any, this committee therefore writes to IW to request an explanation as to why they are recommending a domestic softening unit without recommending ‘local plumbers’ or advising which softening unit to install.

Libraries & Arts
Questions
To ask the Chief Executive if the expenditure on the Have Your Say Mini Libraries can be revisited, as many residents have expressed the view that it was their understanding that it would involve outdoor libraries that any member of the public could access. Would the Council consider sourcing an old Phone Box and placing it at a location where there was footfall but that it was also overlooked from a security point of view and using that for a mini library project, and that examples elsewhere of such libraries could be looked at and a trial carried out, based on any unspent monies in this year's budget or an additional sum being ring fenced in next year's Council budget.

MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE Tuesday, February 23, 2016
MOTION NO. 19
MOTION: Councillor L. O'Toole"That this Council asks the Chief Executive to consider the possibility of utilising council owned building that is currently unused on the Newcastle Road (next to Lucan Pitch and Putt club) as an interim solution to clubs that are currently hiring premises which are in horrendous conditions. (picture can be provided)."
REPORT:"The Council purchased a site including a yard and building for the purpose of the South Dublin County Council Compulsory Purchase (Adamstown Road (R120) Improvement Scheme) Order, 2015, which was confirmed by An Bord Pleanala on 23rd December, 2015. Funding has recently been confirmed from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport. The yard of the site will be fully utilised during the course of the works for the road improvement as a storage facility and compound for the Contractor. The building has no facilities within, as there is no longer any power or foul sewarage availability. Following the completion of works, a full assessment will have to be carried out on the building to assess it's viability for any future use. Any works to remediate the building itself will entail a large financial commitment to change it's usage."
That the chief executive re-examine the viability to purchase the protected structure of "The Schoolmasters House" in Lucan village given that it is on the market for the past four years and recently another site adjacent that could offer parking solutions.
