QUESTION NO. 6
QUESTION: Councillor L. O'Toole
To Ask the Chief Executive to explain the reasons for installing filtered water fountains in the county as appose to unfiltered. And will the unfiltered fountains be upgraded to filtered ones.
REPLY:
The purpose of providing public drinking water stations is to reduce the use of single use plastic bottles and this is in keeping with the Council's Climate Change Action Plan. The provision and installation of these units was procured through a public tendering process, the unit supplied by the successful tenderer is filtered however there was no requirement in the tender specification for this to be the case.
