MOTION: Councillor L. O'Toole

That this Area Committee asks that the Chief Executive report on the current status of the Newcastle Road study as part of the Adamstown SDZ phasing. To include what benefits the recently open roads in Adamstown have made to alleviate congestion on the Newcastle road and to ask that the report incorporates the newly upgraded R120 section of the road.

REPORT:

The status of the Newcastle Road study was incorporated into the LUcan Access Study.

The Study area is the area bounded by the R120 and all Lucan lands to the east.

Adamstown is to the west of the R120 and was not included in the LAS.

The objective of the study was to determine accessibility issues covering walking, cycling and public transport access to the N4.

The upgrading of the R120 is mentioned in the Adamstown SDZ.  

No studies have been carried out to date to establish the effectiveness of new roads within and around Adamstown beacuse it would be premature to do so until Adamsown is completed..

There are a significant number of new roads and dwellings to be constructed in Adamstown.
