QUESTION NO. 25

To ask the Chief Executive for an update on the stream at Tobermaclug and Adamstown SDZ in light of recent complaints to the Council about works in the vicinity of the stream

REPLY:

Construction work is ongoing in Adamstown in proximity to what is to be Tobermaclugg Park. Two landowners have permission either side of the parklands and certain infrastructural works are required over the lands. To maintain the quality of surface water entering the stream from the building works a temporary attenuation area with straw bales is currently in place within the parklands. The Planning Authority have been informed that the purpose of the straw is to filter the water prior to it reaching the stream.

The stream itself has been diverted over the course of development in Adamstown to accommodate a major surface water pipe and a foul water pipe which connects to the pumping station to the north of the parklands. This work was done early in the development of Adamstown.

The Planning Department has advised the developers to lodge a planning application for the Park and is currently engaged in pre-planning to this effect. However, in light of the complaints that have been received, the Enforcement section of the Planning Department is going to carry out an investigation to assess whether any planning breaches have occurred within the lands.
