QUESTION NO. 33

QUESTION: Councillor Joanna Tuffy

To ask the Chief Executive if the expenditure on the Have Your Say Mini Libraries can be revisited, as many residents have expressed the view that it was their understanding that it would involve outdoor libraries that any member of the public could access. Would the Council consider sourcing an old Phone Box and placing it at a location where there was footfall but that it was also overlooked from a security point of view and using that for a mini library project, and that examples elsewhere of such libraries could be looked at and a trial carried out, based on any unspent monies in this year's budget or an additional sum being ring fenced in next year's Council budget.

REPLY:

"South Dublin Libraries purchased the required books to be used for the 300k Have Your Say initiative for the Lucan/Palmerstown area and the initiative was completed in early 2018. The idea of further 'mini libraries' would have to be researched, costed and a needs analysis carried out, including value for money. The focus of any additional spend on books currently, is to stock the two new libraries at North Clondalkin and Castletymon, which we anticipate will open in Q2 next year."
