Planning
Questions
Now that the planning application process for the Adamstown Civic Building has concluded can the Chief Executive advise whether a separate briefing or meeting can be arranged for Councillors to discuss the outcome in detail, including the key elements of the proposal, any amendments arising during the planning process, the proposed delivery programme and the next steps for the project? Given the significance of the facility for the Adamstown and wider Lucan area such a meeting would provide an opportunity for Councillors to gain a fuller understanding of the project and its future delivery.

That this Committee calls on the Chief Executive to provide a detailed update on the School Warden review and school crossing surveys within the Local Electoral Area, including a breakdown by school of the surveys undertaken, the outcomes of those surveys, which schools met or did not meet the relevant thresholds for further intervention, and the current status of any proposed measures, including school wardens, technical solutions, Active Travel measures, Safe Routes to School, or School Streets initiatives.
That the Chief Executive upgrade the bus stop 2207 outside Palmerstown Manor on the Kennelsfort Road to provide a paved area long enough for a bus. Because of the back door exit on all new buses people have to walk on the grass and mud.
Can the Chief Executive arrange an on-site meeting with representatives of the three schools located along Station Road, Adamstown together with relevant Council officials to discuss the ongoing traffic management and road safety concerns on this route? Given that requests for engagement on this matter have previously been raised through the Traffic Management Meeting (TMM) process can the Chief Executive also provide an update on any actions taken to date and outline what measures are being considered to improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety and school access along this stretch of Station Road?.
That this Council requests the Chief Executive to examine the need for a dedicated community bus service for the Lucan and wider area, having regard to population growth and the transport needs of community, voluntary, youth, disability and older persons groups. As part of this examination, the Chief Executive is requested to engage with operators and users of the existing South Dublin County Council community bus service to assess demand, usage, waiting times and capacity, and to determine whether there is a need for an additional community bus serving the Lucan and wider area, and to report back to the Council with findings and recommendations.

To ask for an update on the conditions attached to a disposal of lands approved by Council at the April Meeting held on 11/4/22 to facilitate the building of a new school and in particular the provision that was made in the terms of the disposal that the Esker Community Initiative be accommodated to the largest possible extent in the new facilities. Does the Council have any up to date information of the status of the lands, the proposed building of a school and whether the Esker Initiative which was a coalition of different local community groups is still in place? Are there any circumstances in which the land would revert to the Council.

That this Council requests the Chief Executive to examine complementary town and village support measures, including initiatives similar to the ‘Love Sligo’ local business card scheme, and to consider whether such approaches could be advanced through the Economic, Enterprise and Tourism SPC and the relevant Area Committee.
That this Area Committee calls on the Chief Executive to prioritise the acquisition and formalisation into public ownership of the old graveyard at Lucan Village (Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary), and to provide a report outlining the legal and practical steps required, a timeline for acquisition, and any interim arrangements to regularise SDCC’s control of the site. This motion is further to a motion agreed in 2024 and subsequent engagement with the National Monuments Service, noting that the absence of formal ownership is limiting access to heritage and conservation funding. The Committee also calls on the Chief Executive to consider options for restoring managed public access to the graveyard via the Lucan House demesne

I put in a representation for a patch of grass to be cut in Buirg an Ri back on March 18th this year. Numerous emails have been sent since then but the grass area is now completely overgrown.
