MOTION NO.16

MOTION: Councillor T. McDonald

I put in a representation for a patch of grass to be cut in Buirg an Ri back on March 18th this year. Numerous emails have been sent since then but the grass area is now completely overgrown. The original request was to tidy up the area, cut the grass and plant some pollinator friendly hedging along the fence. This is still outstanding. Could the Manager confirm when this work will be carried out please?.

REPORT:

The area in question will be tidy up in Q3.  The works will include the cutting and cleaning of overgrown grass and vegetation.  This may necessitate the grubbing out of roots which will in turn require reinstatement with topsoil and sowing grass seed.  There is an existing beech hedge growing on the opposite side of the estate boundary fence which protrudes onto the open space.  It would be difficult to establish pollinator friendly hedging in this situation given the dominance of the existing hedge.  It is therefore recommended that this element of the works are omitted.
