MOTION NO.13

MOTION: Councillor M. Johansson

That the Chief Executive carry out an audit of bike parking facilities at shopping centres, supermarkets and neighbourhood centres in the Lucan, Palmerstown and North Clondalkin to identify gaps in facilities and present a report to the Area Committee.

REPORT:

The Active Travel Section have recently been involved in a number of schemes that have implemented additional cycle parking in the Lucan, Palmerstown and North Clondalkin Area, including:

• Lucan Village Green Enhancement Scheme – 6 New Sheffield Stands Installed
• Lucan Demesne (Car Park) – 5 New Sheffield Stands Installed
• Lucan United Football Club – 10 New Sheffield Stands Installed
• Lucan Village (outside Paddy the Barbers) – 2 New Sheffield Stands Installed
• Sandy Hole Park, Clondalkin – 10 New Sheffield Stand Proposed
• Grand Canal to Lucan Greenway – 12 New Sheffield Stands Proposed
• Doddsborough District Enhancement Scheme – 6 New Sheffield Stands

It should be noted that lands directly surrounding and adjacent to supermarkets may be in private ownership which could present a difficulty for the Council installing public cycle parking. However, the Active Travel Section are happy to meet with members to discuss locations where additional cycle parking is being requested and to investigate if additional facilities can be installed, subject to sufficient funding being available.
