MOTION NO. 1

MOTION: Councillor C. Brady

Cathaoirleach's Business 

That this Committee calls on the Chief Executive to provide a detailed update on the School Warden review and school crossing surveys within the Local Electoral Area, including a breakdown by school of the surveys undertaken, the outcomes of those surveys, which schools met or did not meet the relevant thresholds for further intervention, and the current status of any proposed measures, including school wardens, technical solutions, Active Travel measures, Safe Routes to School, or School Streets initiatives.

REPORT:

A "Schools Count" process took place in Q4 2025. The nine schools concerned were:

• Adamstown ETNS
• Gaelscoil Naomh Padraic Esker
• Glenasmole
• Lucan Community NS
• St Dominic’s NS
• St Joseph’s BNS
• St Kevin’s BNS
• St Maelruains JNS
• Talbot SNS

The results are currently being compiled and the schools will be notified shortly of the results.  During the interim the following measures were undertaken at some of the above schools:

- Road Safety Education Programme was delivered to Talbot SNS and St Joseph's BNS. (photo attached).

- There are further talks scheduled to take place in the new academic year at Adamstown ETNS and St John the Evangelist NS.

- Road Safety Walk took place on Child Safety day during National Road Safety Week at St Joseph’s BNS (photos attached).

- Students from St Maelruains JNS launched our ‘Back to School’ campaign last August (photo attached).
