To ask the Manager to request if the four lamp feature at St Killian's Park at the Watery Lane gateway to Clondalkin be repaired and reinstated?  None of the lights are in proper working order, one is missing completely.  Whilst these gateway features were an ill conceived waste of money, we are where we are and this feature should be repaired and reconstructed.  Failing that, the whole installation should be removed.

The issue of trading from the street in Main Street in Clondalkin is still exercising residents and councillors. The toilet seats have been replaced by Ireland flags and paraphernalia which are suspended from grotty shutters, presided over from a seat on the main street by a number of shopkeepers.  Residents of the village can't believe that this is allowed by the council.  To ask the Manager have you any update?

Qu (3)

Councillor T. Delaney

To ask the Manager if a gate can be erected in the laneway approaching the Leisure Centre from Nangor Road closer to the Mill Pond Complex to prevent illegal dumping in the pond area?

That the Committee be updated in relation to replacement of speed pillows in the Clondalkin area.  What proportion of these have had to be replaced.  I have noticed the use of a preformed speed pillow in Galway and some other local authority areas.  These appear to be brought to the site ready made and screwed into the road.  Has their use been considered in this area.

To ask the Manger what is the problem with the bins along the green canal path which are very often overflowing and a significant blackspot in the great story that is the canal way?  I use this path in both directions out of Clondalkin both during the week and at weekends.  As a response to a members rep I was told that bins are emptied on a contract basis as and when needed.  If this is the case, the bin collectors are not fulfilling their contract.  The service is not satisfactory. What can be done about it?

That this Committee resolves that some trees be planted in the Clondalkin village and Harelawn  areas to complement the great work being done by the Tidy Towns committees in these locations and to enhance their chances in the forthcoming competition.  The area at Tuthills car park and at Main Street have been earmarked by the village group whilst the Harelawn group have plenty of suitable sites.  The planting of trees would be a fitting tribute to the work of  the Parks and Environment Department, and all council staff who have inspired the Tidy Towns groups from Clondalkin this year.

That this Committee resolves that the main gateway to Dublin, from Newlands Cross to the Red Cow Roundabout be improved and tidied up so as to give a better impression of Clondalkin and of South Dublin to the millions of motorists who pass this way each year.  Of particular concern is the plethora of illegal signage, the broken down hoardings and the derelict properties at the St Brigid's Cottages (the ranch) area.

That the Manager meets with the Clondalkin Tidy Towns Committee every two months with an ongoing agenda with issues the CTT Committee may have. Councillors should also be invited to these meetings. This will free up CTT related business and allow for other business to be submitted to ACMs.

Mot (24)
Submitted by:
Councillor B. Bonner

That this Committee commends all those who worked together to ensure that the poster ban during the recent referendum campaign was such a success.  It was commented on by so may people that the absence of posters underlined the success of the recently established Tidy Towns group and emphasised the historic beauty of our village.  All of the political parties abided by the voluntary ban and this is to their credit,.  This Committee resolves that the poster ban would continue to be supported by all parties and organisations in the future.
