QUESTION NO. 2

QUESTION: Councillor B. Bonner

The issue of trading from the street in Main Street in Clondalkin is still exercising Residents and Councillors. The toilet seats have been replaced by Ireland flags and paraphernalia which are suspended from grotty shutters, presided over from a seat on the main street by a number of shopkeepers.  Residents of the village can't believe that this is allowed by the council.  To ask the Manager have you any update?

REPLY:

At present there are no legal actions open to this Council to prevent, regulate or restrict the display of particular types of goods hanging from the shutters of any business premises. S71 of the Roads Act 1993 is used to regulate removal of items from the public road. The location in question is monitored regularly to guard against breaches of S71 and action taken as necessary.
