QUESTION NO. 6
QUESTION: Councillor B. Bonner
To ask the Manger what is the problem with the bins along the green canal path which are very often overflowing and a significant blackspot in the great story that is the canal way? I use this path in both directions out of Clondalkin both during the week and at weekends. As a response to a members rep I was told that bins are emptied on a contract basis as and when needed. If this is the case, the bin collectors are not fulfilling their contract. The service is not satisfactory. What can be done about it?
REPLY:
The emptying of the litter bins along the Grand Canal Way – Green Route is carried out on a contract basis.
The level of supervision to ensure this was being done on a regular and timely basis has not been as it should be, resulting in a number of complaints being made.
The contractor involved has been advised to increase the number of inspections to ensure the bins are emptied before they overflow. New reporting structures are being put in place to monitor the situation so that the frequency of inspections are adjusted as and when required.
