In light of the significant work carried out by volunteers of the St Marks Community Garden and the hugely positive impact of this project on an area that was previously a hot spot for illegal dumping an anti social behaviour the Clondalkin Area Committee calls on the Manager to support this valuable project by providing a wheelchair accessible ramp at the entrance to the garden and a small amount of concrete slabs & paving inside the garden the purpose of which is to further enhance this important local amenity.

In light of the high level of anti social behaviour and  poor state of the roads, paths and bollards at the junction of St Marks Avenue and Grove the Clondalkin Area Committee calls on the Manager to bring forward a plan to deal with the following problems:

- repair or replacement of the bollards at this junction

- repair damage to the road and path surface at both sides of the junction 

The plan, which should involve consultation with those residents who live immediately at the junction, should also explore possibility of enhanced street lighting at the junction.

This Committee calls for a report on St. Cuthberts (ruined) Church in view of the link with St. Cuthberts Cathedral at Durham and in view  of the historical visit of St. Cuthbert to this part of Clondalkin many centuries ago.  This site was fenced off to stop trespass some years ago however we should try and have this historical site saved.

That this Committee supports development of a scheme to facilitate the transfer of small portions of Council lands that;

- Have become hot spots for illegal dumping

- Have become hot spots for anti social behaviour

- Have become badly overgrown with trees & shrubs

- Are no longer accessible to Council staff or the general public

- Have little or no commercial value

The scheme could include an opinion from estate management on the issues outlined above with respect to a specific piece of land; a commitment from the applicant to cover the costs of any construction work arising from the transfer; a commitment from the council to dispose of the land for a nominal fee and to waive legal costs.

In order to increase levels of electoral registration in advance of the November 25th deadline the Clondalkin Area Committee recommends that the Manager take the following actions:

- provide electoral registration forms to all community centres, social awlfare offices, HSE health centres, the post office, the social welfare office and other relevant public offices in the Clondalkin LEA

- engage principals of secondary schools, youth services and youth advocacy organisations in the Clondalkin LEA to encourage 18 year olds to register

- engage community organisations in those areas with lower levels of registration and electoral participation with a view to implementing a plan to increase voter registration in these areas

- discuss with Councillors other possible ideas that could, within the short timeframe allowed, increase voter registration.
