Parks

Questions

Qu (4)
Submitted by:
Councillor A-M. Dermody
Responsibility:
Michael Hannon

"To ask the Manager to report back on the progress made by the Manager since receiving a request by certain Residents living in Dargle Wood whose houses front onto Knocklyon Road but whose rear gardens back on to the new Dargle Wood Park.  It appears that this request by Residents was submitted last year by one resident acting on behalf of all interested residents.

The Residents concerned are prepared to negociate with the Council to acquire the lands which they in turn could be incorporate into their holdings.  The area in question is a disused box shaped space, which is off the main park and therefore the sale off of this land would not in any way diminish or take from the Park space. Since the park was opened up and completed Residents have concerns that this box shaped space could be an attractive space for teenagers to congregate which could in turn lead to an anti-social intrusion?"

"That the Manager clear the scrub trees at the old Hermitage/Priory ruins opposite houses 45-47 Hermitage Park."

Mot (8)
Submitted by:
Councillor A-M. Dermody
Responsibility:
Bill Kearney

"That the Manager discuss having caused an inspection of the trees **address supplied, the trees in question are extremely high with Residents concerned that this particular specie of beech tree does not have very deep roots and that there is a concern that these trees might be susceptible to falling down during episodes of high winds.  The Residents say that because of the height of the trees it would be prohibitive from a cost perspective for the Residents to take on this task of pruning.  The Residents also specifically ask that the trees be pruned and not  removed altogether and if there could be an overall assessment by the Manager of all other trees in the estate to ensure that same are safe.  The Residents say that the estate is close on 20 years old and has never had the benefit of such an assessment by the Council."

"That the Manager install a Heritage plaque with a history of the ruins at the old Hermitage ruins opposite houses 45-47 Hermitage Park."

"That the Manager provide a directional sign to signify the entrance to Hermitage Estate off the Grange Road."

Mot (11)

Councillor A-M. Dermody

"That the Manager assess the walls on Willbrook Road near the tuning fork (Whitechurch Road) junction  his attention is brought to the bad uneven condition of the walls along Willbrook road, Ballyboden road, with a sizeable crack at or near the pedestrian entrance.  This area of Rathfarnham is part of the Rathfarnham Walking Tour - Tourism and Local Heritage.  This can be found in google and the route sets out Whitechurch road without mentioning Ballyboden Road.  Yeats lived for years in Riversdale beside Boden Wood on Ballyboden; there are 19th wrought iron railings, pillars, at crossings over the little bridges along Ballyboden road (which starts at The Tuning Fork).

There is a preservation order on the entrance to Rosebank (across from Fonthill). So the Tourist could walk up Ballyboden road, cross into Fonthill, continue through Willbrook, go onto Sarah Curran road to Enda's Park; OR on coming out of Willbrook turn left down Whitechurch road back to The Tuning Fork.   A complete walking tour loop has been done with streams beside the walk all the way around the loop.

I  think the wall along the route takes from the significance of the walk, or put another way if there was a stone wall along the route would enhance the area and the walker's experience of the area. I want to know if this wall could be rebuilt with back to back funding from the Build Heritage Jobs Leverage Scheme 2014.  It may be necessary for the Manager to join forces with the Tourism and Local Heritage people for the area so as to progress this.  If such funding cannot be availed of can the Manager report back on the state and condition of the wall (with particular emphases on the crack) and provide a realistic proposal as to when replacement walls could be completed."
