Motions
That this Council recognises the serious issue of pedestrian safety along the Newcastle Road in Lucan but insists that the proposed implementation of a local HGV ban coincides with a lifting of the existing HGV ban on the Outer Ring Road.
That South Dublin County Council condemns racism and calls on all Local Authorities nationally to do the same.
That the Manager presents a report on how much monies has been allocated under the flooding relief budget designated by the government in the aftermath of the recent flooding, and to outline what processes were used to assess claims and payments
That this Council considers a scheme of rates reduction for tenants who take up rental of vacant premises in particularly hard hit areas of the county
That this Council supports the Undocumented Irish campaign in the USA to introduce an earned regularisation scheme. This Council also notes with concern the high numbers of undocumented families and children living in Ireland without rights and under tremendous stress and fear. This Council supports the introduction of an earned regularisation scheme in Ireland, based on criteria set down by the Department of Justice and Equality, so that undocumented migrants living in Ireland can participate fully in the social, political and economic affairs of the country. This Council will forward a copy of this motion to the Minister for Justice and Equality.
That this Council calls on the Manager to ensure that all major and secondary road signage, including directional signage to major venues within the County, is readable and clear to the travelling public and to ensure that such signage is kept grafitti free.
That the Manager outline best practice in terms of grass cutting responsibilities, in particular with reference to grass verges along minor and national roads.
That this council requests the Manager to initiate a programme of removal of all superfluous signage highlighting capital construction and upgrade projects which are fully completed for more than a year; and furthermore in line with section 4.2.9.ii of the County Development Plan to “progressively reduce the amount of free-standing signposts, mini-pillars boxes, overhead cables and other urban clutter which detract from the visual attractiveness of our traditional urban centres commencing with those areas designated as Architectural Conservation Areas.
That this Council, noting that around April 2011 almost 19,000 households in the County met the household income criteria for the granting of a waiver entitling them to a minimum number of black and brown bin collections in a year, and noting that as from April 2012 the waiver system operated and funded for many years by the Council, and currently implemented by Greyhound Waste Management, will be completely ended, requests the Manager to write immediately to to Minister Phil Hogan, conveying to him the strong view of the Council that the National Waiver System proposed in the Programme for Government be drawn up and implemented as soon as possible preferably by April 2012 and certainly in 2012.
That the members of this Council are opposed to the imposition of a call-out charge for the Fire Services within this County and request the County Manager to so inform the City Council and to further inform the City Manager that it is not in keeping with good governance, where there are shared facilities or services, to unilaterally impose such an operational change on such a vital public service on the citizens of this County.
That this Council calls on the Minister for Transport to direct unused funding paid by taxi drivers to the former Taxi Regulator towards the provision of security measures such as CCTV and security lighting in the interest of public and driver safety nationally.
That the Manager provide information on community events, planned throughout the County and supported by the Council, to mark St. Patricks Day.
That, having regard to this Council's policy of inclusivity and equality, the disproportionate (100%) increase in the cost of Islamic grave spaces should be cancelled with immediate effect and brought into line with revised increases (50%) that have been introduced for non-Islamic graves.
That this council recommends that the SDCC Procurement Policy be further amended to ensure that SME’s based in South Dublin County are invited to submit quotations for purchases and contracts of less than national tender threshold €25,000.
That this Council urges the Manager to draw up and publish for public consultation and adoption by the Council a set of Taxi Bye-Laws for the County, which will put in place a system for the provision and regulation of Taxi Ranks, and regulations covering the waiting for fares by taxi drivers in places other than designated Taxi Ranks, which is along the lines of Bye-Laws in place in the Dublin City Council Administrative Area, and if he can make a statement on the matter.
