QUESTION NO. 9

QUESTION: Councillor E. Higgins

To ask the Manager for an update on the installation of adult exercise equipment in the 11 parks which were awarded funding for these projects in the County and to provide information on the projected timeframe for completion of these trails?

REPLY:

A total of 11 applications were made to the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport for grant aid for the provision of outdoor gym equipment in the South Dublin County Council area.

All eleven applications were successful and notice of provisional allocation has been received from the Department for the following locations:

  1. Beechfield Park
  2. Greenhills Park
  3. Glendown Park
  4. Tymon Park (2 trails)
  5. Griffeen Valley Park
  6. Waterstown Park
  7. Hermitage Park
  8. Kingswood Park
  9. Rathcoole Park
  10. Corkagh Park
  11. Aylesbury Park

The Council advertised a tender for the supply and installation of outdoor gym equipment at the eleven locations on 18th November and eight companies submitted tenders by the closing date.

The tenders have been processed and it is expected that contracts for the supply and installation of equipment will issue shortly to the successful companies, following receipt of clearance from the Department of Transport. Tourism and Sport to enter into contract.

It is expected that the exercise equipment will be installed in all of the parks by the end of March 2012.
