Please advise on the feasibility of extending a cycle route from Knocklyon up into Bohernabreena.

If this could also be extended into town, say Grand Canal Dock, it would provide a gateway to the mountains.

It would be of immense benefit to the area to open it up for further tourism.

That this Council inserts a specific objective in the Development plan to investigate the feasibility of extending the Special Amenity Area Order to include all of the lands at Lucan Demesne, the Embassy - owned lands, the area behind Lucan BNS, St Edmondsbury, Fonthill, Woodville, the Kings Hospital and Waterstown Park, extending from the River Liffey up to the N4 and bordered by the Leixlip-Lucan Slip Road, Lucan Village Road, the Lucan Hill Road, the Lucan Road from the Church Car Park to Woodies, the N4 onwards towards the Old Lucan Road and onwards as far as Waterstown Park.

That the Council directs the Chief Executive to include a policy on the Dodder Valley Linear Park including sealing of landfills at Bohernabreena, Greenway cycleway and pedestrian paths (grade-separated), space for farmers’ markets, bike rental and servicing, picnic facilities, playgrounds supervised by adult exercise facilities/cycleways; allotments for personal use and horticultural training; increase biodiversity – lakes, fishing strands on river and lakes, open stretches of river, replant mono-planting on maturity with resilient diverse species; sleeper-track walking routes off main tarmac route, energy producing dams, weirs, wind power, exercise machines, energy producing walkways; education/interpretative centre for local and school tours, to highlight biodiversity, sustainable energy, climate change and resilience; planning to anticipate climate change; re-introduction of native fruit trees and bushes; re-introduction of native fauna and flora; actively manage identified problem areas and litter including dog fouling (separate dog walking areas?); Slí na Sláinte.  A Steering Committee for all proposals within the Dodder Valley Linear Park should be set up to co-ordinate issues.

12th Lock, Lucan

That this Council directs the Chief Executive to retain the current recognition of the special importance of the area around the 12th Lock, Lucan; and to include appropriate policies, objectives and actions to enhance the area as a recreational and amenity zone, to protect and conserve the rich natural and cultural heritage of the area to protect of natural habitats and ecological resources along the Grand Canal and Griffeen River.
