QUESTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan

To ask the Chief Executive how many community groups and residents associations have applied for assistance to participate in National Spring Clean Week in April and how many such groups have been facilitated?  Are facilities in place for rubbish to be collected from all involved groups?

REPLY:

National Spring Clean Week 2015 is from 1/4/2015 to 30/4/2015. 

The purpose of the initiative is to:

• Encourage clean-ups throughout the whole month of April
• Galvanise the practices of recycling and re-use where possible
• Increase the number of Events and Participants
• Promote personal responsibility for litter
• Heighten awareness of litter and waste issues

To date (31/3/2015) 86 applications for National Spring Clean Week assistance has been received and arrangements are currently being made for collection of the rubbish.

It should also be noted that these collections are additional to 173 scheduled monthly clean ups.
