QUESTION: Councillor M. Devine

To ask the Chief Executive, in order to encourage businesses to avail of the "Shop Front Grant" has the Council directly approached all businesses within the county  outlining the scheme and its benefits?

REPLY:

The Shopfront Improvement Grant Scheme for 2015 opened on Thursday the 12th of March, with a closing date of Friday 8th of May, 2015.  The Council publicised the scheme in the following ways: 

• An advertisement was placed in the Tallaght Echo and the Lucan Gazette on the 12th of March, which will be re-advertised in April. This was preceeded by an article about last years winner the week before in the Echo in oder to develop interest in advance of re-opening.
• Details of scheme are on the Councils website
• A Press Release was issued to local media
• Facebook & Twitter posts were issued and will be re-issued at the same time as further newspaper adverts in April.
• A leaflet drop took place to shops in the main villages
• All elected members were notified and asked to spread information on this
• The Chamber of Commerce were notified and also issued notification of this to its membership
• The Council also notified all those applicants from 2014 who, for various reasons, did not proceed with works.
• The Council is also notifying the main representative retail bodies to increase awareness.

Retailers also contacted the Council directly on this scheme recently and have been met and briefed on the details.
