MOTION NO.19

MOTION: Councillor P. Foley

That this council develops a charter for safe driving - with particular reference to low speeds in residential areas - which it then seeks take-away companies, in the county, sign up to. The take away company will then seek to ensure their delivery people adhere to the rules of the charter. This is to help make our residential areas safer.

REPORT:

Work is underway on the review of speed limits Countywide which will incorporate residential areas. It is intended that this will be enhanced and supported by a Road Safety Strategy to be developed later in the year. The enforcement of breaches of speed limits will remain a matter for the Gardai.  If Members of the Public are concerend about particular instances of inappropriate driving these should be reported to the Gardai.
