"That this Committee agrees to write to the Superintendent and Waterways Ireland and asked that the following issues are responded to in detail as a matter of urgency to ensure the safety of all using the Clondalkin Canal 1) If live and recorded surveillance via the Canal cameras are not available to An Garda, why is this and can they be made available to An Garda without delay? 2) Who is responsible for monitoring the live and recorded feeds at the moment? How often and for how long are the cameras monitored each day, evening and night? Presumably, the cameras work after nightfall. 3) What happens if something untoward is observed? 4) Who decides what event is "untoward" and what is done about it at present? Is it reported to the Guards? What happens then? 5) If live and recorded surveillance via the cameras is not available to An Garda at present, what happens to any query submitted by An Garda to SDCC about an alleged anti-social or criminal event along the Canal?"

Questions

Qu (10)
Submitted by:
Councillor S. O'Hara

Chris Galvin

"To ask the Chief Executive, to investigate leakage of sewage onto N81 at Brittas. Sewage is seeping from a welded manhole on a regular basis located at the junction of the N81 and McDonagh's lane beside the Blue Gardenia. The health and safety of pedestrians are at risk including children coming and going to the St Martin's NS.  Cyclists also badly affected and at risk of accident as they divert past and hold their nose with one hand. Motorists joining the N81 (downhill) may also slide on such slime straight onto the N81 risking serious accidents. This sewage seems to then make its way into the storm drain and surfaces again on the Tallaght side of the N81 before ending up in Britta's ponds. The health & safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists compromised. Please order the offending party to fix permanently and urgently."

"This Area Committee notes the new railing and bollards installed at the corner of Westbourne Green and Lealand Green and in follow up to Motion 2 from the March ACM. Unfortunately quad bikes can still fit through the gap and one of them both ruined Westbourne Green and frightened local children away from the Green on the weekend of 1st/2nd May. This Area Committee calls for bollards, railings and any other infrastructure to be arranged at the same corner in such as way so as to stop quad bikes passing through."

That this Area Committee agrees to a once-off intense clean-up using appropriate machinery at Mount Seskin Road, Mahon's Lane and Meagan's Lane due to the enormous volumes of illegal waste built up in the ditches and that South Dublin County Council assign more regular litter warden services to these rural dumping black spots.
