Motions
That this Council will seek to introduce an element of participatory budgeting in formulating its 2015 Budget, in order to greater enhance democracy in decision-making over the Council's finances.
That this Council requires the Minister for Education to abandon plans to charge apprentices a pro-rata student contribution from 2014
That this Council supports the introduction of a half hour free parking period in all parking areas controlled by SDCC. This initiative will be introduced as part of the Council's ongoing campaign to support local business and shops particularly those in the villages of our county. Residential parking schemes operated by SDCC where the primary purpose is to control parking for the benefit of local residents will not be affected by this scheme This pro-business initiative should have a one year evaluation period followed by a full review of its effectiveness. The review should cover the following key areas Value for money to the public and SDCC Effective parking control Commercial value to local business
This Council calls upon the the Minister for Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation to take action on these issues
That this Council believes that all those who work for a living should receive a decent wage to help provide for their material needs. This Council believes that Zero hours contracts place much uncertainty on individual and household budgets. Council also notes that wage levels in many areas of employment fall short of providing an adequate standard of living.
This Council therefore believes in the abolition of Zero Hours Contracts.
The promotion of a tax rebate for small businesses in exchange for paying a living wage of at least €10 per hour - with a view to ultimately making the living wage binding on all firms.
That this Council increase maintenance levels at Grange Castle Golf Course
That this Council, as part of the Green Dog Walkers initiative and to compliment the roll out of the 2014 regional strategy, erect anti -dog fouling signs in requested areas.
That this Council supports the development of more countryside walking routes through our County, similar to the Dublin Mountains Way; and particularly supports the development of such routes through the Liffey Valley; and requests the Manager to examine fully the potential to achieve such routes in conjunction with neighbouring local authorities and Government; including through provision of 'permissive routes' in agreement with landowners.
That the Manager develops a programme in conjunction with our FAI Development officers that focuses on girls only schools within the county in order to increase the participation of girls in football and to celebrate the new home of Ireland's Senior Women's team in Tallaght Stadium
That the Council states how much in terms of finance and resources it costs to accept payment for property tax and that function should rest with the Department of the Environment
That this Council endeavours to employ aptly skilled members of the Travelling Community in the construction/refurbishment of their Traveller Accomodation
