That this Committee now requests South Dublin County Council to ask the Irish Government, through the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government, to begin the process of engaging with the owners of the lands at St. Edmundsbury and Woodville, Lucan, that would take these lands into state ownership so that the objective of this Council and that of the local community will be realised, and that these lands will become part of a Liffey Valley Park, and that as part of this new initiative this Council would make a presentation to the Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism, demonstrating the potential tourism benefits as well as the historical, conservation and heritage significance of these lands.

Question
Meeting:
Submitted by:
Councillor G. O'Connell
Responsibility:

Is it possible to give a report on the number of convictions for breach of the 3 Tonne limit on Kennelsfort Road during 2009 and is it possible to state the number of times that Gardai have been assigned to 3 Tonne duty on this road during 2009?

Question
Meeting:
Submitted by:
Councillor G. O'Connell
Responsibility:

Heavy vehicles travelling through built up areas are a source of great concern to residents. Is it possible to have a more even enforcement of the 3 Tonne limit?  What in effect is the real impact of having traffic notices displayed across the County that state e.g. at approaches to Kennelsfort Road, Palmerstown  “.3 Tonne Limit on Kennelsfort Rd. Monitored by CCTV”?   Who does the monitoring and what is the outcome? The rate at which residents observe this law being (apparently) breached on a regular basis undermines both the law (in general) and the Garda Service and leads to a lack of confidence amongst the population who express feelings of vulnerability and frustration.
