REPORT ON LOCAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE (LCDC)
(circulated herewith)
Letter, dated 23/01/14, from Edenderry Town Council regarding their motion passed in relation to a Student Service Charge in Apprentices Training in Institutes of Technology
That this Council liaise with relevant anti-racism networks to develop best practice and policies which sends out a strong unequivocal message there is no acceptable level of racism.
That this Council will not make use of the Gateway scheme. Gateway is a work-for-benefits scheme also known as Workfare. Participation on Gateway is not voluntary; it entails 22 months of hard labour for a very small social welfare top-up of €20 that can be all but eroded by tax. It will not enhance the employability of participants as there is no quality training involved and there is a recruitment embargo in place on local authorities. Gateway punishes the unemployed for being unemployed and copper fastens the under-staffing of essential local services
