Mayors Business

Recognising the level of employment created by the food, hospitality and tourism sector and reflecting as Mayor on my own commitment towards the promotion of practical solutions to the youth unemployment crisis, I call on central Government to retain the 9% rate of VAT in 2015 to support food, tourism and jobs.

Noting the recent case of a migrant woman who, pregnant as a result of rape and despite suicidal ideation, was denied an abortion - suffering horrific physical and mental suffering at the hands of the State - this Council calls on the Government to hold a referendum in the remainder of its term so the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution can be repealed.

To ask the Chief Executive what can be done to improve the safety of pedestrians who use the pedestrian crossing at Tesco on Convent Road, Clondalkin?  There is a road sign obscuring the orange light for drivers who are coming from Boot road direction.  The crossing is not raised like the newer one on New Road.  Addressing these issues might improve the situation.  There have been near misses at this location on an ongoing basis.

To ask the Chief Executive to explain the charges at Saggart Cemetery.  Are there graves currently available there and what is the cost? Also, is there a charge for permission to erect a headstone?  If so why, and where does the money raised go.

"To ask the Chief Executive if he is aware that a garage is operating out of *address supplied* and a large number of Vehicles are being parked outside on the road causing a nuisance to residents as a result. I visited the area recently and there was half a dozen cars and a tow truck parked there as well as many scrap parts in the garden. Is it possible for an inspection to take place and if required a letter of compliance to be issued to this tenant telling him that is not appropriate to carry on such a business from a council owned house and that he should cease?"

Given the difficulties being experienced by residents in Floraville, St Anthony's Avenue and other parts of Clondalkin at school opening and closing times, by parents dropping off and collecting children obstructing driveways and damaging grass verges and obstructing the school entrance by illegal parking, could the Chief Executive present a report on what can be done to address this problem.

That this Committee calls on the Chief Executive to arrange a complete clean-up of the Laneway located at the rear of Maelruans Park and backs on to St Dominics School. And also that the Chief Executive will arrange that this laneway is added to the regular cleansing schedule of the Council.
