MOTION NO. 9
MOTION: Councillor B. Ferron
"That this Area Committee supports the Alzheimers Day Care facility, Rose Cottage, in Tymon North Place request for permission to extend the space at Rose Cottage to include a small garden/seating area for clients. I have been informed by this group that they may be able to provide donor funding for this project if they are given permission to proceed, I understand previously that the site was visited and the request declined, can the Chief Executive Officer provide a report on this request please?"
REPORT:
An application for permission to re-locate the front boundary of Rose Cottage was submitted a number of weeks ago and an initial examination of the request was carried out. The plan to extend the space around the building is to enable the group to incorporate a small garden/patio/raised beds area within the confines of the facility so that their successful gardening therapy could be delivered in a more suitable manner. This request was not declined but a number of queries were raised and clarification was sought on a number of fronts including the availability of the finance to carry out the work.
Further clarifications and information was received from the group last week in the course of an on-site meeting and preliminary proposals has to how, subject to the group raising the necessary finance, the matter could be advanced were agreed. The County Architect has been asked for his further advices on the matter with particular attention to the impact the proposal might have on existing underground services in the immediate area and the options open to maximise the potential recycling of materials so as to reduce the costs involved. Subject to the technical advices being in order the Council will not raise any objections to the group proceeding with an agreed plan and the staff of the Community Department will continue to work with the group on their proposal.
