QUESTION NO. 6
QUESTION: Councillor C. King
"To ask the Chief Executive Officer to detail how much of the Public Realm Budget has been spent cleaning up illegally dumped rubbish in Kiltalown over the last two years. In addition to this can the Chief Executive Officer state how many litter fines have been issued and paid as a result of the illegal dumping in Kiltalown Estate?"
REPLY:
It is not possible to accurately report on the clean up costs of illegal dumping in the Kiltalown area as since January 2014 all costs including wage costs have been apportioned to the relevant work programme (such as Grass Cutting or Estate Cleansing etc) in line with the actual work being carried out each week. These costs are not recorded estate by estate but rather are work programme by work programme.
The Council’s Public Realm Section has carried out 47 cleanups in the Kiltalown area, to date in 2014, at a cost to the Council of €15,000.
11 litter fines in total were issued for the Kiltalown area in 2013 of which 1 was paid in full. During 2014 to date 4 litter fines have been issued in respect of this area, of which 1 has been paid in full.
