That this Committee aware of the ongoing problem of bonfires and litter on the green space between Lanndale Lawns and Ashgrove in Springfield and asks the Manager to investigate ways of supporting local residents in conjunction with the Garda Authorities to enable the green space and the general area to be returned to some normality.

To ask the Manager given the present economic climate and the over production of horses over the past number years and emergence of horses practically starving in some areas of the county, will he outline what is the protocol and procedures for dealing with this situation and who should concerned residents contact if they are aware of horses left in this condition?

That this Committee requests the Manager to present a detailed report for discussion on the preparation of appropriate programmes of works by South Dublin County Council, the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board and the Environmental Protection Agency to address the serious concerns highlighted in the previously-adopted ‘Eastern River Basin District’ plan regarding the water quality of both the River Liffey and the River Griffeen; and in this report to include:

  • A report on monitoring by this Council of the foul drainage system discharging from St. Edmundsbury Hospital via an above-surface sewer-pipe to a private treatment plant located on the River Liffey close to Lucan Boys NS;
  • A further report on investigations into problems of drainage misconnections in estates in Lucan South and the resultant impact on the River Griffeen;
  • A response to proposals that the River Griffeen should be subject to a relevant environmental designation such that future rezoning or development proposals in it’s catchment would require preparation of an appropriate assessment under Article 6 of the Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC;
  • Details of how any proposed programmes of works following on from the ERBD plan are to be funded.
