That the Lucan-Clondalkin Area Committee, noting the Management response in Item 1.11 of the Minutes of the Traffic Management Committee meeting of 20th May 2010, stating “Count to be carried out, subject to funding”, requests the Manager to;-
(1) Arrange to have the count at Main Street, Lucan, carried out as a matter of urgency, and certainly before the summer;
(2) in evaluating the results of the count, have serious regard to the fact that many of the pedestrians crossing the Main Street in and around La Banca/The Square are residents of Sarsfield Park/Close and Main Street, neighbourhoods where a very high proportion of residents are elderly, do not have cars, are very dependent on the shops and other services in Lucan Village for their daily needs, and are entitled to expect that they can come and go as pedestrians to the Village, and cross the road, in safety;
(3) note that in Lucan Village there are no pedestrian crossings between the AIB and the far end of Main Street, close to the Liffey Bridge, a shortage of crossings which is in marked contrast to, for example, the centre of Clondalkin Village, and
(4) give the provision of a pedestrian crossing in Lucan Village a high priority in the context of the Council’s financial constraints.
