JOINT POLICING COMMITTEE REPORTS
(circulated herewith)
That this Committee supports the Community Grants system operated by this Council and calls on management to protect these Grants in the current financial constraints and climate and that this matter be fully discussed. Many community organisations have expressed grave concern at the reported discontinuation of these grants as in most cases they make the difference between a community activity going ahead and not and the little money given by the Council has a multiplier effect locally.

That this Committee deplores the littered state of many of the laneways in the Dublin 12 area of the County, many of which have served as the location for significant acts of 'fly-tipping' in recent months and years; that the Committee seeks further resourcing of the litter warden and inspection services with regard to this dangerous and antisocial practice; and that the Committee asks the Manager to prepare a report on the possibility of a Community Employment or other scheme which would engage local people in laneway cleaning and upkeep as an addition to the existing environmental services.
That this Committee requests the Manager to write to the Minister of Education & Science requesting him to make available his department’s area-based analysis and forecasts for future school-place demand as identified through the departments’ new Geographic Information System (GIS) so as to allow the elected members of South Dublin County Council to properly consider school planning needs as part of preparations of our new County Development Plan.

That this Committee, acknowledging the excellent role that this Council has played in both funding terms and facilitator terms, calls on the Manager responsible to write to County Dublin VEC expressing our dismay at the recent decision to replace the Manager at Palmerstown Community Sports Facility with a part-time Manager shared with Collinstown Park Community College and requesting that the VEC restore the full time services of a Manager to the facility to the benefit of both the school and the local community. Removing the services of a full time Manger contravenes the strategy recently agreed between the VEC and Pobalscoil Iosolde and the Palmerstown Community Sports Facility Management Committee.
That the Lucan-Clondalkin Area Committee requests the Manager to write to the Minister for Social and Family Affairs seeking information on the additional resources, including staff and accommodation, which have been provided to the Clondalkin Social Welfare Office in 2009 to deal with the doubling of the number of persons on the Live Register; that the Committee asserts its view that the difficulties faced by persons on the Live Register in the Lucan and Clondalkin areas, including waiting times for approval for SW payments, waiting times for processing of Mortgage Relief support, waiting times for SW payments in Lucan Post Office, are totally unacceptable, and asks the Manager if the Council has been requested by the Department of Social and Family Affairs to make any of its accommodation in the area available to improve the services provided.
