That the Manager bring a report to this Area Committee at an early date on the operation of the Griffeen Valley Park to include proposals on how it can

(a) be rendered less attractive to those involved in anti-social behaviour and so that it can

(b) support efforts by adjacent communities to make the general area, including the Park and its environs safe and crime free where residents can move about without fear or hindrance.

Councillor W. Lavelle

That this Area Committee in seeking to respond to residents concerns over anti-social behaviour in and around Griffeen Valley Park recommends that an electronic-timer controlled locking system, as piloted in Rathfarnham Castle Park, be installed to prevent night-time access to Griffeen Valley Park through the pedestrian gate at Griffeen Glen Park/Elm Green; and in the more immediate term that barriers be put up on both side of the gates, in effect making it a kissing-gate; so as to prevent access by horses and scrambler-bikes through this gate.

Councillor E. Tuffy

That this Committee requests the Manager to note that at a recent Public Meeting in Lucan, many residents living in estates along Griffeen Avenue expressed serious concerns about the frequency of anti-social and criminal incidents in the area, that Griffeen Valley Park itself is a location for certain types of anti-social behaviour, including illegal drinking by youths and intimidation, verbally and otherwise, of residents and asks that he present a report to the Area Committee meeting, outlining what measures the Council is implementing, on its own and in collaboration with An Garda Siochana, to counter such anti-social and illegal activity, especially within and at the boundaries of Griffeen Valley Park.

Motion
Meeting:
Submitted by:
Councillor C. Jones
Responsibility:
Michael Hannon, David Fennell

That this committee reaffirms its commitment to facilitate Esker Educate Together in establishing a permanent school building on a site at Esker Lane. However the committee calls on the manager not to commence a Part 8 to locate a park depot on lands adjacent to Johnsbridge housing estate within Griffeen Valley Park. The committee instead, appeals to the manager to prepare a Part 8 for this depot on council lands south of the railway line. These requests are made with due cognisance of Council policy to locate park depots within regional parks and having regard to the future development in the surrounding area and the extension of this park.
