"That, acting in the common good and on behalf of the citizens, the situation of the Laneways in Palmerston be examined with a view to finding a more cost effective, environmentally friendly and health and safety way of maintaining them that will allow them to be used for the sole purpose for which they were provided, i.e. as a means for adjoining residents to gain access and regress to their property; that the Law Department/Agent give a definitive explanation as to why, apparently, these laneways have to be treated as the same type of right-of-way as a public road when clearly they serve quite a different purpose and that this Committee requests Management to prepare a scheme whereby these lanes can only be used for the purpose for which they were designed and that intruders only determined to dump and engage in anti-social can be excluded."

"That this Committee calls on the Manager to inspect Trees at No's 90/91 Killinarden Estate and 95 Killinarden Estate. Residents at these locations are fearful of the stability of the Trees as a result of their size and age and the very close proximity to the houses concerned. There is also a concern that the roots are damaging the footpaths and a shore at No 90. That these trees be removed as requested by the concerned residents".

This problem has been raised many times at Area Committee meetings, and inspections etc. carried out by Council staff. That this Council calls on the Minister to introduce as a matter of priority Mandatory Oxygen Saturation screening with the use of Pulse Oximeters in every Maternity Hospital in the State as part of the general postnatal assessment of babies. These Pulse Oximeters already exist in all Maternity Hospitals for use in difficult births. Only seven of the twenty Maternity Hospitals in this State use this system, consequently over half of babies born with a heart defect are discharged without a diagnosis and relevant care. This has resulted in death and lifelong health problems which could have been improved with early diagnosis with the use of this simple and quick test.
