QUESTION NO. 16
QUESTION: Councillor G. O'Connell
"To ask the Chief Executive for an update on the provision of a digital library in Palmerston?"
REPLY:
The provision of a digital hub / library in Palmerston is one of the objectives of the Library Development Plan 2012-2016. The library service is conscious that it needs to address the library infrastructural deficit in the county and to deliver new library buildings into communities where they will have the most significant impact as catalysts for change.
All this is however conditional on the availability of resources and a suitable site or building. In a move to address the resources issue the Libraries Department hope to start a capital fund in 2015 to pay towards the costs of establishing a digital hub/library in Palmerston. The County Librarian is actively involved in looking for a suitable site or building that meets the criteria both in space and access for such a building.
