"This committee acknowledges that additional bins that have been introduced gradually to Lucan & Palmerston. These bins have proved successful to date as they are being used to their full capacity. However the full use has led to the bins being over filled quite regularly and therefore additional cleansing/emptying would need to be introduced. Following this the committee asks if the Chief Executive would consider the introduction of the new innovative “Big Belly” bins for reasons outlined in recent articles such as: “American-manufactured “Big Belly” bins are fitted with solar-powered waste compactors which crush rubbish to increase the capacity of the bin by six to eight times that of a traditional litter bin. Sensors in the bin detect when it’s full and send a message to council staff letting them know the bin needs to be emptied.”
