That this Committee calls on the Council to initiate the process for conducting a plebiscite (as per my motion of 21/02/06) to determine a single spelling for PALMERSTOWN as its sometimes spelt - by this Council - as PALMERSTON (which is not recognised as accurate by the local community).  This is leading to a lack of respect for a Council that cannot get such a fundamental issue as a place name correct or even be consistent.

That this Committee calls on the Manager responsible to initiate the process for the establishment of a trading pitch/site at the entrance to Palmerstown Cemetery. Traditionally, and when the entrance was directly from Kennelsfort Road, there was a licenced trader selling flowers and who has had to endure a lot of hardship due to the fact that his pitch/site was not moved when the entrance was relocated to its present location.

That this Committee supports the concerns of residents in Rosse Court, Lucan about a recent planning application for a significant change of use of a retail unit in the estate, and recognises that it is difficult to achieve sustainable and acceptable commercial centres in small to medium residential developments, and requests the Manager to make a  report on the criteria and guidelines used by the Planning Department to ensure retail development is acceptable to residents and to reject change of use applications which may result in potential problems such as health and safety problems, noise pollution and late night business activity.

Could the Manager please do something about cars parking 'all day' in the layby beside St. Mary's School, Lucan.  Would it be possible to designate this space for 'short term parking' with relevant penalties for those who park all day in order to assit parents dropping and collecting their young children from the primary school.  Also would the Manager please erect small bollards on the footpath adjacent to the school so that cars cannot park on the footpath making it difficult for pedestrians to pass, especially those with buggies and prams.
