Report on Housing Construction Programme

Motion

Submitted by:
Councillor D. Keating

Bill Kearney

That the Manager would agree to commence a preliminary investigative examination of the feasibility of Skate Park facilities for Clondalkin and Palmerstown. In recent months there has been an increase in the interest shown by many young people in the Clondalkin and Palmerstown areas in acquiring a Skate Park facility and as a result I have formed the Clondalkin Skateboard Club. A similar recruitment drive in Palmerstown is ongoing. On completion of the Lucan Skate Park, and allowing time for development of the activity, it would be prudent to examine closely the interest shown by young people in neighbouring communities including Clondalkin and Palmerstown, with a view to gauging whether such a facility in these areas may be appreciated and sustainable.

That the Manager would agree to consult with the local residents in Ash Park and Elm Grove to discuss the boundary issues between both estates. To date I have received a number of complaints from local residents that the lack of adequate boundary treatment is the cause of great inconvenience, including anti-social behaviour in the neighbourhood, and as a consequence injury is being caused to the quality of life of local residents.

To ask the Manager to write to the Department of Education and Science and request immediate information as to why safety measures, including road markings and signage, are still not in installed outside the entrance to Gaelscoil Naomh Phadraig, Lucan, given that this road has not as yet been handed over to the Local Authority, enabling such works to be done by South Dublin County Council.

To ask the Manager to provide an up-to-date report on the protection of the lands at the cul-de-sac at the rear of house nos 10-11 Cannonbrook Park, including the rebuilding of the boundary wall, the clearing and levelling of these lands. The lack of such protection is a matter that I have been pursuing for a lengthy period owing to the ongoing anti-social behaviour taking place at this location and the consequental damage to the the quality of life of the local residential community.
