"That a plan be presented to this Committee showing how the area of land on Whitchurch Road and next to St. Gatiens Court can be improved and tidied up.  There is written confirmation from the Council  two years ago that this area would be made better but there was no follow through from the Council.  This area is close to the entrance to St. Enda's Park and with the increased visitor numbers to the area next year it is important that the area be improved and its potential realised.  It is not enough to simply remove the weeds and cut back the grass can the area be planted which in turn would reduced the likelihood of fly tipping at this location."

Mayor's Business

I want to highlight the devastating effect years of funding cuts, coupled with the continuing housing crisis, is having on local women’s refuges.

Saoirse Women’s Refuges’ annual report showed that they had to turn away 494 families in 2014, or 81% of the total number of women who came to them seeking refuge. Now we have the news that Cuan Alainn will be closed before Christmas.  I ask that we write to the Minister for Children & Youth Affairs urgently seeking assistance with funding.
