Questions

Qu (1)
Submitted by:
Councillor D. Keating
Responsibility:
C AC Meeting Administrator

To ask the Manager to write to Dublin Bus to request the installation of a bus shelter on the Newcastle Road at Finnstown Estate at the 151/25X bus stop? This is a very busy bus stop in the mornings and commuters have no protection against the elements. The precise location is the first bus stop on the Newcastle Road after exiting Adamstown and heading in the direction of Superquinn. There is adequate space adjacent to the footpath for the provision of a passenger bus shelter and there are a variety of designs in use around the network depending on space available, so the shelter can be drawn from an existing product range thus keeping the cost to a minimum.

To ask the Manager to write to the Minister for Education and Science to request that he sanction without delay the planning and construction of the proposed Lucan South VEC second-level school on the recently acquired site at Kishoge and to further request that he commit to developing much-needed permanent accommodation for both St Andrews NS and Esker Educate Together NS on the two new sites currently being sought in Lucan by the Office of Public Works on his department's behalf?

Qu (4)

 That this Area Committee calls on Irish Rail:

  • To reverse it's decision to indefinitely delay the opening the new Kishoge Rail Station, noting that this new station, which cost the taxpayer many millions of Euros, is located only a short walking distance from many residential estates in Lucan South;
  • To reopen the Phoenix Park rail tunnel so as to allow commuter trains from the Kildare line serving Hazelhatch, Adamstown, Lucan and Clondalkin to travel directly to the docklands and/or to the city centre, noting that the proposed new Interconnector rail tunnel is not due to open until 2018 at the earliest;
  • To introduce commuter trains commencing in either Hazelhatch or Adamstown given that nearly all current morning peak-hour commuter trains are full before they reach our county;
  • To coordinate with Dublin Bus on the introduction of orbital bus services, as proposed in the Deloitte review, to connect built-up residential areas of Lucan, Palmerstown, Clondalkin & Newcastle to rail stations on the Kildare line;
  • To attend a special meeting with members of this Committee to discuss these and related matters.

That the Manager would again write to the Minister for Education and Science Batt O'Keeffe TD, and in noting the many motions, questions and submissions I have tabled over recent years on the outstanding matter of the required permanent building for Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada, that the Minister would now take into account the urgent need for this facility, the increased anguish being expressed by the Gaelscoil community, and agree to the building of this Gaelscoil for opening in September 2010.

That this Committee commends the County Librarian for her efforts to locate a suitable location for the long promised Library/Digital Hub in Palmerstown for residents of the 3000 homes in the area as well as for the extensive staff and persons who are living in or associated with Stewart's Hospital; that she convey the appreciation of this committee to Stewart's Hospital Management and the dedicated staff of the Local Joint Library for the excellent  service that is currently being made available in collaboration with SDCC Library Service to both the Hospital and Local Community; and requests that the library service avail of every opportunity to provide, in so far as is possible, the same range of services either in-house or in other suitable local locations, as it does in other branches of the County Library and that the role and profile of the Library Service be enhanced and promoted within the Palmerstown community.

Mot (5)
Submitted by:
Councillor E. Tuffy
Responsibility:
C AC Meeting Administrator

That this Committee welcomes the decision by the Council to dispose of a site for a second level school in the Kishoge area, and requests the Manager to write to the Minister for Education and Science conveying the view of this Committee that it is a matter of the greatest urgency for his Department to complete the purchase of the site and initiate immediately the process for specifying the Schedule of Accommodation for the school, appointing a Design Team and achieving an early start on the building project as many parents in the south Lucan area, particularly those living and attending schools in the area defined by the Catholic parish of Divine Mercy cannot secure a place in a Lucan school of their choice for their children.

Mot (6)
Submitted by:
Councillor D. Keating

Mot (7)
Submitted by:
Councillor E. Tuffy
Responsibility:

That this Committee reaffirms its appreciation of the excellent programme of classes, exhibitions and other activities provided by the staff of the Lucan and Clondalkin Libraries over recent years, recognises that staff have been willing to carry out valuable work outside their contractual duties, and rejects the unfair and ignorant criticism of Library staff expressed in recent media coverage, and fully sympathises with the difficulties staff have in maintaining their morale and commitment in the face of unilaterally imposed significant cuts in their wages.
