Cathaoirleach's Business

That this Committee objects to any proposals to reduce public transport, including buses, in the Lucan, Palmerstown, Clondalkin and Newcastle areas. Many areas are not currently well served by buses, including residents in estates who previously depended on the Morton's Circle Line for example. Also, at a time when transport costs should be kept to a minimum, it is wholly inappropriate that bus fares should be increased, as did happen recently. This Committee requests the Manager to convey the above to the Minster for Transport and the Chief Executive of Dublin Bus.

Mot (2)
Submitted by:
Councillor T. Gilligan
Responsibility:
C AC Meeting Administrator

That this Council contacts the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government to allow voting from the age of 16 in local elections and on the Lisbon Treaty.

Mot (3)
Submitted by:
Councillor D. Keating
Responsibility:
C AC Meeting Administrator

That this Committee asks the Manager to request the Gardaí to put in place a procedure so that the people of Palmerstown will be served by a single Garda Station. Over the years there has often been great confusion given that one area of Palmerstown is being served by Ballyfermot Garda Station, and another area of Palmerstown is being served by Ronanstown Garda Station. This Committee agrees that the current arrangement is most unhelpful to the residents of Palmerstown.

Mot (4)
Submitted by:
Councillor E. Tuffy
Responsibility:
C AC Meeting Administrator

That this Committee notes the decision of An Post to relocate the Lucan C and D Office from Tandy's Lane to the Fonthill Road, shares the concern of Lucan residents, particularly older people and persons who do not have cars, about the accessibility of the new location, and requests the Manager to write to An Post expressing these concerns, and requesting An Post to provide a number of options to Lucan residents who are notified that undelivered post is in the C and D Office, options to include re-delivery to the household involved at a designated time, re-delivery to nominated neighbours, and re-delivery to designated public agency premises in Lucan including Post Offices, and that the new arrangements and re-delivery options be adequately notified to residents.

Mot (5)
Submitted by:
Councillor T. Gilligan
Responsibility:
Mary Maguire

That this Council contacts the Department of Environment with a view to changing policy to allow local Councillors to have regular contact, updates, proposals to

a) National Government Departments - such as Finance, and Foreign Affairs and

b) the European Commission, Parliament / Council and

c) possibly the United Nations, IMF, European Central Bank.

Mot (6)
Submitted by:
Councillor E. Tuffy
Responsibility:
C AC Meeting Administrator

That this Committee rejects any proposals by Dublin Bus or the Department of Transport to reduce already inadequate bus services to Lucan and Clondalkin, is strongly of the view that Dublin Bus should increase and improve its services to and in the area, including new routes to Dublin City, new orbital routes to Clondalkin, Tallaght, Blanchardstown, Dundrum and Dun Laoghaire, additional buses, and requests the Manager to convey these views urgently to Dublin Bus, CIE and the Minister of Transport, and to remind the Minister and the transport companies of the investment made by SDCC in new roads and Bus Lanes in the County and in particular in and around Lucan and Clondalkin.

Cathaoirleach's Business

As previously requested and agreed, would the Manager bring as a matter of urgency, details of a proposed scheme to install public lighting on that section of footpath in Hermitage Park, Lucan, that is an established pedestrian route, linking the public transportation on the N4/Ballyowen Lane and the densely populated residential areas off Ballyowen Road, St. Loman's Road and Ballyowen Lane. Since I reported details of the disturbing and vicious attack on a resident in Hermitage Park, a further similar incident took place in the week before Christmas at this location. Many people, including those who participated in the public consultation process I engaged in, believe that public safety would be enhanced by the provision of public lighting at this location.

That this Committee is concerned about the delay in the implementation of the 5 Year Playground Programme in the Lucan and Clondalkin Electoral Areas, acknowledges the well founded fears of the Parks Department, and indeed residents groups, that unsupervised playgrounds in open parks/green spaces are extremely difficult to operate, and recommends that the Manager review the Council's approach to the provision of play facilities for children, and outdoor exercise facilities for adults.
