Motions
That this Council calls on the Chief Executive to provide for the installation of battery storage systems in Council buildings where investment in, or installation of, solar panels is being undertaken.
That this Council calls on the Chief Executive to examine the feasibility of establishing a Bike Library scheme in South Dublin County, enabling residents to borrow and trial a range of bicycles, including e-bikes, cargo bikes and adaptive bikes, for a short period before making a purchase decision, and to report on potential delivery models, partnerships and funding opportunities.
That this Council calls on the Chief Executive to allocate additional resources and funding to ensure that Council tenants are not left for prolonged periods without functioning heating or water during the winter months, and that urgent repairs are prioritised accordingly.
That this Council calls on the Chief Executive to develop and implement a County-wide awareness campaign on the dangers of recreational nitrous oxide misuse, particularly among children and young people, including its health risks and the environmental and financial impact associated with the collection and disposal of discarded canisters.
That this Council notes the Final Report of the Joint Committee on Drugs Use, published on 24 June 2026, which recommends repealing Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 to decriminalise possession of all drugs for personal use; condemns that recommendation as out of touch with families and communities and the damage drug use does to them, and calls on the Government to reject it and invest instead in treatment, family supports and Garda resources to tackle supply.
That this Council notes with grave concern incidents of group assaults on young people in public places which are filmed and subsequently shared on social media; recognises the additional and potentially lasting harm caused to victims through the recording and online dissemination of such assaults; and calls on the Minister for Justice and the Government to introduce specific legislation to address assaults committed with the intention of recording or broadcasting them, including appropriate standalone offences and penalties that reflect both the physical assault and the additional harm caused by its publication online.
