MOTION No. 4

MOTION: Cllr. Cáit Keane

"That this Committee recommends that the right turn arrow be restored/replaced on the lights at

Templeogue Bridge  i.e. turning into Cypress Grove Road – it is very dangerous at the moment and I quote a resident “ Most drivers however end up breaking the lights when they change, as that's the only way they can turn”.

REPORT:

Into town and out of town traffic flows are controlled separately.   The situation can come up on any cycle where out of town (away from Templeogue) has a red light and in to town has a green light.   Where this arrangement (which is a standard option for designing a signal junction) occurs indicating to out of town drivers the end of their green phase may be interpreted an idication that the opposing traffic also has a red signal and that they can proceed to Cypress Grove Road.   As this is not the case a secondary signal is not provided away from the stop line.

After studying driver behavour at this junction consideration is being given to the installation of appropiate roadmarkings to accomodate the right turning traffic at this junction.
