HEADED ITEM No. 5

Stocking Lane Improvement

Arising from the request from members of this Committee to report on the need for safety measures on Stocking Lane in association with the opening of the new road from Oldcourt Road to Stocking Lane a Consultant Engineer has been appointed.   The Consultant has been requested to examine the existing situation and advise the Council on the feasibility of constructing a footpath, the provision of road markings and signage with a view to improving safety for all road users on this road.

A topographical site survey will be shortly carried out.   On an initial examination the provision of this footpath is a relatively complex matter in that a large portion of the proposed site is not in the ownership of the Council and the levels of the land adjacent to the road are irregular.   The provision of the footpath at the northern end (Scholarstown Road end) must be compatable with the proposed housing development in that area.

It is anticipated that the Consultant's report will be available in Spring 2007.
