MOTION: Councillor C. Jones

"That this committee supports the issuing of new planning guidelines to ensure that any new development, within the Tallaght Area, containing ground floor or single storey residential units, is planned with windows that allow for use without compromising the security of the property."

REPORT:

The Local Area Plan for Tallaght Town Centre contains a section (paragraph 5.3.6, page 150) on the principles of Safer by Design. 

The section of the Plan sets out a significant number of key design principles for the urban environment.  These principles seek to increase the perception of safety and reduce the opportunities for criminal and anti-social behaviour.  They include layout and orientation, access and movement, mutual surveillance, clear lines of vision, active frontages, good lighting, CCTV etc.  It will be a requirement that all new major developments will address the Safer by Design principles.
