COMHAIRLE CHONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE 2
Monday, October 23, 2006
QUESTION NO. 13
QUESTION: Councillor C. King
"To ask the Manger to outline the policy if any in relation to name stones outside of housing Estates in terms of the ever increasing absence of the Irish translation on such stones in the Tallaght area and can he make a statement on the matter?"
REPLY:
It is Council policy that the responsibility for proposing naming for new developments rests with the developer. The Council advises developers of requirements, and guidelines, approves the eventual scheme and advises that signs relating to the approved name be erected at appropriate locations and that they be in accordance with the provisions of the Official Languages Act. The use of the Irish language exclusively is encouraged.
