QUESTION NO 20
QUESTION: Councillor J. Neville
"To ask the Manager to arrange for contact to be made with the Contractors currently working on the refurbishement of Tallaght Village (directly adjacent to the Credit Union). The Contractors have currently fenced off a large area adjacent to the Credit Union and thus are restricting safe pedestrian access/egress at this location. Could the fencing be moved to allow safe pedestrian access/egress?"
REPLY:
Work underway in the centre of Tallaght is part of an ongoing project by SDCC to upgrade the environment in the village. Two new plazas will be created with granite paving, new planting and feature public lighting. These works will improve the amenity and appearance of the village centre. Consultation took place between the Council and the businesses and residents most affected before works began. The Contractor will be contacted to ensure pedestrian safety while works are underway. The plazas will be completed by end November. The Zip project will follow on from these works. This is a project to create a high quality pedestrian and cycle corridor from Luas to the village. This will ensure continuity and movement between the village and the developing area around the Square.
Overall ,these works will lead to some inconvenience and disruption but they are a solid beginning to the commitment made by the Council in the Tallaght plan to effect a high quality urban environment in all parts of the town centre.
