QUESTION NO. 16

QUESTION: Councillor K. Warren

"To ask the Manager to recognise the appalling traffic gridlock problems every morning and evening in the general Ballycullen area and given the Council's proposal to introduce an area action plan in Old Court, the complete necessity to provide additional road infrastructure and link roads in this area, if he would set out what, if any, plans exist by South Dublin County Council to provide immediate relief for residents who live in this area and the longer term plan for additional roads/transport corridors to address this issue and if he will make a statement on the matter?"

REPLY:

Much of the current problems in the Ballycullen area are due to difficulties in accessing the M50 and areas east of the Scholarstown Interchange following opening of the South Eastern Motorway and completion of the C-Ring in mid-2005. The upgrade of this interchange is scheduled to be undertaken as part of the final phase of the M50 Upgrade project which is to be completed in 2 - 3 years. In the short-term, the opening of the link road to Stocking Lane will provide some relief. In addition,  the Council's consultants are currently examining the overall road network in the Kiltalown/Old Bawn/Ballycullen area with a view to submitting a draft report and recommendations by end-September/mid-October on possible further short-and medium-term improvements.
